Grenadier, the "Ugly" Fish Gets Her Due: She's a Favorite in Fish Tacos

The San Francisco Chronicle ran a cover feature, "‘Ugly’ fish a prized catch for Bay Area school cafeterias" about our Bay2Tray program where we get grenadier, the bycatch, or underutilized species from the black cod fishery, into school lunches.

The reporter, Tara Duggan, did a great job describing how these simple fish tacos are changing school lunches, and the current, convoluted seafood supply chain.

She wrote, "As long as this bug-eyed, rat-tailed fish remains bycatch, its use can reduce food waste, give children access to a fresh source of protein and provides fishermen with a new income stream."
